Crane Load Testing
Proof load testing large crane
prior to being placed into service.

Cranes of all types can be load tested using water bags.  The use of Hydro-Wates water bags and certified load indicating equipment ensures compliance with regulatory and certifying authority requirements for periodic proof-load testing.  We can provide certification of proof-load test results to nationally recognized standards specified by API, OSHA, ASME, NSTE and others.

The use of water bags for crane load testing is recognized as a safe technique for slowly applying the test load.  This allows technical problems with the crane to be recognized and corrected prior to reaching the full test load.  In addition, load water can be drained without have to lower the test weight.  This would be helpful in situations where the hoisting system or brakes were compromised in some way.

Custom Crane Load Testing

Water bags can also be moved into low headroom or very tight areas where solid weights cannot be positioned.  Solid weights generally require the use of a forklift truck to move them into position and this cannot always be performed along narrow walkways or where overhead clearance is low.

Rigging and equipment configurations for specific projects are reviewed and approved by one or more licensed professional engineers to ensure test objectives are achieved.

Whether your crane is located offshore, in a shipyard, at a power plant, or other location, we’ve got the equipment and expertise to get the job done right the first time.

In addition to providing personnel to perform onsite rig-up and filling of water bags, we also perform a comprehensive range of engineering and technical services, including:

  • Certification of proof load test results to nationally and internationally recognized standards specified by API, OSHA, ASME, NSTE, IMO and others.
  • Supervision of field work by licensed professional engineers.
  • Rigging design and certification.
  • Specification of rigging components.
  • Fluid pumping using high capacity gasoline, diesel, air or electrically powered pumps.
  • Custom engineered lifting beams.
